Director of University Choir Program 3.0 3.0 out of 5 stars 1658 Kings Road, Jacksonville, FL 32209 Position Description Edward Waters University (EWU) in Jacksonville, FL seeks a Concert Choir Director to provide leadership, instruction, and direction to a campus-based choir. As an African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church-affiliated institution, EWU has a strong Christian tradition rooted in high moral and spiritual values. Edward Waters University seeks to develop excellence in scholarship, research, and service for the betterment of humanity.” Duties The Concert Choir Director will be the leader of the Edward Waters University Concert Choir. This role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities: conducting weekly rehearsals, leading worship services and performances, and providing guidance and mentorship to the choir members.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
: A Master’s degree in Music or a related field, including at least 18 graduate semester hours in music. A minimum of two years of professional or paraprofessional experience in directing a choir. Experience collaborating with a team and working with college-aged students, as well as familiarity with multiple musical traditions or denominations. Proven success in instructing and conducting choir or vocal performance groups. The ability to work effectively with both adults and teenagers. Proficiency in directing vocal and choral performances. Capability to serve as an accompanist when needed. Strong networking skills to engage with the public and community members. Major Responsibilities Develop a choir and instill a sense of community amongst members. Direct the choir during weekly scheduled rehearsals; effective in using rehearsal time wisely to educate members musically and plan rehearsals to accomplish short and long-term goals; Select music suitable for the level of the choir, introducing new music as is appropriate and practical for the demands and needs of the community; Train choir members both as individual vocalists and as ensemble musicians; Prepare and present major community performances; Prepare and present other smaller community performances as requested by the community; Prepare and store materials and equipment as directed by department requirements; Keep accurate records of attendance and assessment; Stay up-to-date with current practices in choral performance; Other duties as assigned.
