Position Summary:
Countryside is seeking a passionate and highly skilled Worship Assistant/Music Director to join our worship ministry team. This 20-hour-a-week position plays a vital role in resourcing, developing, and leading worship, both on Sundays and throughout the week. The ideal candidate is a gifted vocalist and musician (guitar or keyboard preferred), with a strong heart for worship, a solid foundation in music theory, and a passion for equipping others. This role includes supporting the Worship Pastor, mentoring and developing young musicians, running a worship practicum twice a week in partnership with Southeastern University (SEU), and leading Sunday services when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Sunday Worship Leadership:
Play and sing in Sunday morning services every week. Serve as the point leader for worship when the Worship Pastor is away. Direct the band and vocal team during Sunday morning rehearsals and services. Collaborate on weekly setlists, arrangements, and transitions.
Music Preparation & Resourcing:
Create and distribute chord charts, harmony recordings, and practice tracks. Organize rehearsal materials for singers and musicians using Planning Center Ensure all worship team members are prepared musically
Leadership & Development:
Mentor and develop young and emerging musicians within the church and the SEU Worship Practicum program. Lead SEU Worship Practicum rehearsals/classes twice weekly, providing coaching, feedback, and leadership training. Encourage a culture of excellence, growth, and worship-centered ministry.
Creative Collaboration:
Contribute creative input and ideas for worship services, special events, and seasonal celebrations (e.g., Christmas, Easter). Assist in the planning and execution of large worship events and productions.
Other Ministry Support:
Serve as a worship leader/musician for other ministries occasionally throughout the week as needed (e.g., youth, young adult services). Provide support and coverage for rehearsals or events beyond Sunday mornings when necessary.
Qualifications:
Musical Ability:
Strong vocal ability and proficiency in guitar or keyboard (both preferred, but one required). Good functional knowledge of music theory and arranging. Experience leading worship in a church or ministry setting.
Leadership & Interpersonal Skills:
Effective communicator and team builder with a heart for mentorship. Able to give constructive feedback and foster growth in others. Passion for leading others into the presence of God through worship.
Organizational & Technical Skills:
Proficiency in using worship planning tools (e.g., Planning Center Online, Multitracks, etc.). Ability to manage schedules, deadlines, and rehearsal prep.
Additional Information:
This is a part-time role (20 hours/week) with flexible scheduling outside of required Sunday and practicum hours. The position reports directly to the Worship Pastor and works collaboratively with other ministry leaders. There is opportunity for this role to grow into a full-time staff position based on ministry needs and performance.
