Salaried/Exempt Overview This position is responsible for music at all liturgical and non-liturgical celebrations; the training, development, and preparation of cantors, musicians, and choir members; and all administrative functions associated with the position. Job Responsibilities Plans and leads music for all liturgical and non-liturgical celebrations, including all weekend Masses, as well as all Holy Days, Funerals, Weddings, Penance Services, taped TV Masses, Easter, Christmas, and Concert, among others Manage the activities and schedules of the cantors, adult choir, and instrumentalists of liturgies and special events. Develop musicians’ musical abilities and understanding of the liturgy. Prepare choir and cantor books with music. Provide sacred music of the highest quality per the instructions in the documents of the Catholic Church, themes of each liturgy, and clergy requests, including arranging or composing music to fully engage the musician(s) and parish family Foster active participation at the liturgy through congregational singing, reflective and prayerful execution of instrumental and choral/solo musical selections combined with appropriate silence Keep abreast of developments in sacramental theology, applicable Canon Law, liturgical practices, and Diocesan policies/guidelines Facilitate all technology relevant to music and worship, including sound equipment, musical instruments, and the preparation of digital or tactile worship aids Organizes and maintains all equipment used by musicians, including but not limited to organ, piano, microphones, stands, sound system, etc. Provides accurate copyright information and coordinates all financial responsibilities Provide highly skilled instrument playing (organ and piano) without diverting the congregation from a focus on the liturgy, prayer, or worship Send hymns, and songs weekly to the Rector/Clergy and Operations Director Assist families and the Rector/Clergy in the planning of weddings and funerals and provide music ministry for such occasions Attend all staff, liturgy, and planning meetings Recruits, trains, schedules, and develops all Music Ministries, including Adults, Children (School and Parish), and Teens, as Cantors, vocalists, and instrumentalists Collaborates with other Music Directors and outside contacts to facilitate the growth of new ideas Direct and lead traditional and contemporary ensembles Creates and maintains organized and updated music files of various styles and genres Prepare and keep the parish liturgical calendar Provide for coverage should (s)he be absent due to illness or approved time away Performs any other duties as directed by the
