SUMMARY:

Assist the band director in providing musical instruction for students; assist with all band activities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance 2.Assist the director with MS and/or HS band program 3.Assist with instrumental instruction for individual students, small groups and the entire class 4.Maintain lesson plans and use relevant date to plan for instruction to meet the needs of all students 5.Use research based instructional strategies to engage students in active, student-centered learning 6.Assess, documents and prepares reports such as achievement progress, grade and classroom performance and attendance 7.Provide a well-managed, safe and orderly environment that encourages respect for all 8.Participate in student related conferences 9.Assist with actively recruiting and retaining students in the band program 10.Assist with the planning, for all band performances; assumes responsibility for arranging transportation to and from events and performances 11.Assist with the care, maintenance and storage of all uniforms and instrument/equipment inventory 12.Ability to be present at the physical worksite 13.Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations 14.Perform other duties as assigned and allowable by intended program

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university Hold or be eligible for school system’s required certification in appropriate educational field Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills Ability to work well with students, parents, staff and the community

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Frequent bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling and repetitive fine motor activities. Prolonged periods of standing, walking and sitting. Vision, hearing and verbal communications are essential functions of this position. 2024 PREFERRED

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience as a classroom teacher Experience as an assistant band director Master’s Degree from accredited college or university
