High Point University’s Department of Music invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Music – Director of Athletic Bands. This is a full-time 10-month faculty position. The qualified candidate will teach two courses each semester; serve as Director of Athletic Bands; work closely with the Department of Music and Athletics to coordinate pep/marching band activities; maintain a research program (creative works); engage in department/school/university service; participate in recruitment and retention initiatives; and advise music majors.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Masters degree in music; Doctorate in Music preferred. Experience as an athletic band director or assistant director, preferably at the university level Experience teaching at the college/university level Evidence of a program of creative works or scholarship Effective communication, leadership, and team building skills Evidence of a student-centered approach to education Collaborator and team player who can thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a 10-month position with summer duties related to activities connected to Director of Athletic Bands, particularly in recruitment Serve as Director of Athletic Bands with emphasis on program growth Teach two undergraduate courses each semester (8 credits adjusted) related to the candidate’s area of expertise.
