Experience, activities, or courses (in your adult years) in education, child/human development and/or music. 5+ years (minimum) experience in a professional and/or academic setting. Detail-oriented with numbers, earnings, etc.

Fluent computer skills:

typing, data entry, Word/Docs & Excel/Sheets. Advanced communication skills over phone and email to build relationships and maintain and market services. Ability to engage a diverse population of community students seeking instruction in music. License/Certification Required Essential Job Functions This part-time position manages all aspects of the Appalachian State University Community Music School (CMS). The Director’s responsibilities include initiating new instructor searches; supporting instructors; supporting students/families; connecting the Hayes School of Music faculty and students with CMS; and coordinating registration/payroll logistics with Conference and Event Services, our campus partner. Responsibilities include speaking with parents about their musical goals for their families, encouraging adults to explore music journeys, helping Community Music School teachers coordinate their schedules, reviewing financial and attendance records, and organizing our on-campus recitals, community performances, and additional outreach activities. Preferred Qualifications Seeking an individual with the organizational skills to work well independently and as a team member Willingness to self-start and plan a work schedule as needed throughout the year to help the Community Music School and the Hayes School of Music thrive and grow. Initiative to introduce new offerings while marketing existing programs. Initiative to review existing offerings and determine what new ideas might be used to bring opportunities to our community more efficiently and impactfully. Social media and Drupal web editing experience preferred. College degree, preferably with a concentration in music or graduation from a two-year business administration program or marketing program. 5+ years (minimum) experience in a professional and/or academic setting. Work Schedule/Hours CMS programs are typically held between 4:00-8:00pm Mon-Fri during the school year. The Director’s work will involve occasional attendance at and supervision of programs during those hours, especially at the beginning and end of each semester. Administrative work may often be performed earlier in the workday. An average of 10 hours a week is anticipated for this position, and the actual hours per week may vary widely depending on the time of year. 48 weeks (11 months) x average of 10 hours a week = 480 hours a year expected. The Director may work more if funds permit – or less if they have other part-time university employment that fills much of their time.
