$50/hour, approximately 10 hours/week Camp Dat es: June 30 – July 25, 2025
Work Hours:
Monday-Thursday, AM session 9:30AM-12:30PM; PM session 1:30PM-4:30PM Locat ion: Paper Mill Playhouse campus (Millburn, NJ), including Paper Mill Playhouse, Paper Mill Studios, and Millburn Middle School Report s t o: Director of Education Posit ion Overview Paper Mill Playhouse’s “Paper Mill Players Camp” seeks experienced and enthusiastic Teaching Artists to serve as Music Directors and Accompanists for our half-day musical theatre program serving students ages 6-14. The Music Director will collaborate with fellow teaching artists to support musical theatre classes and showcase rehearsals, contributing to curriculum and accompanying instruction on piano. This is a highly interactive, student-centered role requiring comfort instructing the age range of participants, experience teaching vocal parts, and strong piano proficiency. Multiple schedules are currently available, with assignments made based on availability and student groupings.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Inst ruct ion & Accompaniment
- Co-teach musical theatre classes by providing piano accompaniment and vocal instruction
- Music direct and accompany showcase rehearsals leading to a final informal presentation
- Support students in learning ensemble songs, focusing on vocal technique, diction, and expressiveness
- Collaborate with acting and dance teaching artists to ensure integrated instruction Curriculum Development
- Contribute to the creation and implementation of age-appropriate vocal music curriculum for young performers
- Adapt lessons to meet the developmental and musical needs of each class Team Collaborat ion
- Attend orientation and collaborate with fellow teaching artists to align instructional plans
- Communicate regularly with the Summer Camp Coordinator regarding classroom needs and scheduling
- Uphold a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for all students

- Proficient pianist with strong sight-reading and accompanying skills
- Experience teaching group voice or choral music, particularly to children ages 6-14
- Background in elementary music education, musical theatre, or related performing arts field
- Comfortable managing a classroom in collaboration with other instructors
- Friendly, professional, and flexible attitude with strong communication skills

Campers in full-day production sessions rehearse and perform Frozen Jr. in the Paper Mill Blackbox, while half-day campers showcase original scenes and brief musical theatre numbers. Camp is led by professional teaching artists with the support of trained interns, all committed to creating a supportive and artistically rigorous environment.
