Vocal Choir Director Saint John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church 2101 Newberry Street, Williamsport, PA 17701 Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and experienced part-time vocal choir director to lead preparation of the choirs for performance of anthems during the weekly worship service on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Salary is negotiable. Duties Recruit new members for the choir(s). Direct weekly Chancel choir rehearsals of Thursday evening from 7:00 – 8:15 p.m. Direct youth choir rehearsals every tow weeks on Sunday evenings from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. The two choirs often sing together as well as separately. Oversee the preparation of the choirs for performance of anthems during the weekly worship services, and special services at Christmas, Lent, Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Easter as well as any additional special services. Attend worship team meetings. Provide church secretary with information concerning anthems in a timely manner. Oversee the maintenance of all instruments and musical equipment at the church. Schedule organ and piano tuning as needed. Research copyright issues and prepare required reports. Qualifications Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively guide and inspire choir members Proven teaching experience, particularly in vocal techniques and music theory Ability to mentor and develop the skills of individual singers Experience in conducting and arranging choral music Familiarity with various musical styles and repertoire suitable for choirs
