Pastor Principal focus and scope: Supporting the FFUMC’s mission to connect people with Christ by providing Christian leadership and oversight for the worship ministry of the church, recognizing the profound importance of music in enhancing the worship experience. Incumbent shall have knowledge or make a commitment to gain knowledge of the United Methodist Church’s liturgy and practices. 1. Works with the pastor, worship staff, and musicians to coordinate the worship music program of the church, including the praise band, choirs, ensembles, and special music programs to develop a worship experience that draws from both traditional and contemporary elements of worship. 2. Prepares and manages the annual budget for worship music and support. 3. Participates in worship planning with pastor and the worship team to collaboratively select music and liturgy appropriate to the sermon series and/or liturgical calendar. 4. Prepares slides and graphics for Sunday morning worship using ProPresenter and Canva. 5. Oversees the online worship experience [live streaming, YouTube, etc.]. 6. Actively recruits, promotes, and trains musical talent (vocal and instrumental), both within and outside of the congregation, with a goal of involving the maximum possible participation in the overall music program of the church. 7. Coordinates volunteers (musicians, scripture readers, liturgists, etc.) and paid musicians for all worship services (including funerals and special services). 8. Serves as a vocal and/or instrumental musician in support of the whole team. 9. Arranges for substitute instrumental musicians and vocals as needed. 10. Facilitates and directs worship rehearsals with adequate preparation and efficiency to allow instrumental musicians and vocals to prepare. 11. Utilizes Planning Center Online to prepare worship orders, complete with sheet music, lyrics, charts and arrangements at least two weeks prior to any given worship experience. 12. Works with volunteers and staff to ensure excellence for all worship enhancements such as sound, pro-presenter, videos, bulletins, instrument maintenance, décor, etc. 13. In a spirit of Christian attitude, performs any other tasks needed for the work of the church. Requirements (education, training, skills, character, etc.): A mature faith; experience in a music-related field and/or specialized musical training; experience in church music leadership; and demonstrated skills in recruiting, training, growing, and leading praise bands, choirs, and ensembles.

Supervision received:

Incumbent is responsible to the Senior Pastor and works under guidelines established by the Staff-Parish Relations Committee. Relationships with other program staff are collegial and require cooperation, mutual respect, and teamwork.

Supervisory responsibility:

Paid and volunteer staff associated with elements in the worship service.
