Cook’s UMC Choral Director
Purpose To develop and lead the Traditional worship music ministry for our church, in consultation with the pastor and other team members, in a way that is consistent with our mission, values, and theology. Responsibilities Select and plan music for Sunday and special services. Participate in the creative planning of the Sunday and special services with the Pastor and Worship Planning Team. Recruit, equip, motivate, supervise, and shepherd music team leaders and musicians. Develop musical teams and ensembles for services. Direct outreach events into themunity via performances at otheranizations as appropriate. Maintain a strong prayer base for the music ministry. Communicate faithfully with the Pastor, staff, and music ministry participants. Participate in the life and ministry of the church. Qualifications Authentic relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Ability to shepherd volunteer musicians in the Christian life. Love and respect for people. Attested musical skills andpetence. Ability toanize, coordinate, and motivate musicians and technical team members in a leadership role. Sense of humor and positive attitude. Strong team player with the rest of the staff and congregation. Committee to the church’s vision, leadership, and people. Dependable, responsible, self-motivated, and creative. Bachelor’s degree in Music, BA-music or adequate experience (degrees preferred). Minimum five years’ experience in church-related setting. Musical Competencies Ability in wide range of styles including Christian classics (hymns) and contemporary music. Ability to lead worship music and to train others as individual and team worship leaders. Ability to direct vocal and handbell choirs. Producing and directing special events and programs. Not required, but preferred: Ability topose and arrange music. (Writings remain with Cook’s UMC as intellectual property.) Experience with technical aspects of contemporary services: for example, sound board, theater lights, video editing, etc. Accountability The Choral Director is accountable to the Pastor, who will give general oversight and assign duties as required. The Pastor will make rmendations to the SPRC as to the performance and conduct of the Choral Director. The SPRC shall, with input from the Pastor and Choral Director, evaluate the Choral Director. Compensation Compensation shall be reviewed annually and adjusted as required by the SPRC, subject to approval by the Finance Committee and the Church Council. Hours This is a part-time position. The hours are determined by the number of hours necessary to plan and achieve the required tasks. It is expected that the Choral Director at Choir Practice, Worship, and Holy Days in which the church has services, as determined by the Pastor. Participating in Church Council and Worship Team meetings is highly encouraged. Send cover letter and resume, including 2 referrences to cooksumcofficecast.net.
