Job Description
Grace Church Cathedral, Charleston, South Carolina seeks a full-time Sub-Organist to assist in the leadership of the Cathedral’s vibrant music program. Grace is the largest congregation in the Diocese of South Carolina, and choral worship is at the heart of the Cathedral’s liturgical life. The choirs include a semi-professional group of 35 singers (with up to 10 staff singers), a growing RSCM-affiliated chorister program with 25 trebles, and a volunteer parish choir of 20 members.
The Sub-Organist will be the chief musical assistant to the Canon Organist and Director of Music. Duties include the sharing of liturgical organ playing, accompanying the choirs, as well as assisting in choral rehearsals and chorister training. The candidate would also be the organist for the Grace choirs’ residency at St. Albans and Lincoln Cathedrals in the UK in summer 2026. Additionally, Grace greatly anticipates the arrival of a new four-manual, 61 rank Dobson organ to be delivered in the second half of 2026.
