The Office Assistant IV must be able to speak and write professionally. In addition, the Office Assistant IV must be able to be in an environment with animals on a daily basis. Successful applicants must be at least 20 years old, insurable by the County’s insurance carrier, pass a criminal and motor vehicle background check and will be subject to a pre-employment drug test and physical. Essential Job Functions Assists the Office Manager with running the Animal Shelter office operations, under the direction of the Animal Shelter Manager and in the absence of the Office Manager, is able to effectively run the front office. Reviews productions records, compiles reports, gives technical assistance to employees as needed. Assists the Office Manager in the collection, accounting, and transmittal of shelter monies. Resolves citizen complaints. Answers inquiries as needed from the general public. Conducts research and compile a variety of statistical reports. Manages the Volunteer Program with the assistance of the Animal Placement Specialist Works with the Office Manager on work orders, the TNR program, requisitions and agenda items, as well as managing the inventory control system. Performs a wide variety of administrative and clerical tasks. Assists Shelter staff as necessary with clerical tasks as well as showing animals for adoption or owner redemption. Education and Experience Possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the County’s insurance standards. High school diploma or equivalent required. Other Characteristics Willingness to work overtime and non-standard hours as required. Be willing and available to attend training related to job. Injuries from animals pose a work hazard for employees in this class. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Good knowledge of basic high school mathematics. Good knowledge of clerical functions involved in accounting, record keeping, filing and general clerical work. Good knowledge of English grammar, composition, and spelling. Ability to communicate professionally, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of the general care of animals and shelter operations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, employees and the general public. Hear well enough to respond to verbal communication and to use the telephone. Body movement to bend, stoop and move about. Manual dexterity to write and type. Ability to operate computers and basic software programs.
