The Little Guild is a no-kill animal shelter dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats in need. Located in the beautiful Northwest Corner of Connecticut, we provide compassionate care to animals while working to find them loving forever homes. We are a small but passionate team driven by a deep commitment to animal welfare.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dependable, hands-on, and detail-oriented Facility Coordinator/Animal Care Specialist to oversee the maintenance of our shelter facility and support animal care needs. This role is critical to ensuring a clean, safe, and efficient environment for our animals, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will be proactive, resourceful, and have a genuine love for animals.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage inventory of cleaning, maintenance, and shelter supplies; coordinate ordering and deliveries Perform maintenance checks and minor repairs (plumbing, lighting, doors, kennels, etc.) Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of the facility, including animal areas, common spaces, and outdoor enclosures Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for repairs, maintenance, or facility projects Assist with the setup and cleanup of events Monitor and report any safety concerns, building issues, or animal care equipment needs Support staff and volunteers in creating a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment Assist with animal handling, care, and transportation
Qualifications:
Previous experience in facilities, maintenance, or animal shelter work preferred General knowledge of building systems and ability to perform light repairs Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to prioritize tasks Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical tasks in various weather conditions Excellent communication and problem-solving skills Passion for animal welfare and the mission of the Little Guild Must be 18+ with a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Schedule:
Full-time; includes some weekend or evening hours depending on events or facility needs
