Express Employment Professionals is looking for experienced Kennel Attendants in the Fort Pierce area!
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This is position requires an individual who loves animals and is dedicated to ensuring the animals housed at the shelter are well cared for and provided a clean and safe living environment. This position is a part-time position of 35 hours per week. Additional hours may be required periodically as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
General animal welfare and care responsibilities Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the kennel area of the shelter where the cats/dogs are housed. Responsible for feeding the cats/dogs assigned to the attendant that day. Responsible for ensuring the cats/dogs are provided with enrichment and are exercised according to the established schedule. Responsible for monitoring the general health of the cats/dogs assigned to the attendant and reporting any issues to management. Assist with general kennel duties including waste disposal, cleaning food bowls, doing laundry and all other duties necessary for maintaining a clean and safe environment for the animals. Work with the public, assisting in animal adoptions. Escort the public through the kennels to help pick out a cat/dog. Be knowledgeable about the dogs in shelter to be able to properly match the proper cat/dog with the proper home. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skill & Abilities Must love animals – be compassionate and caring. 1-2 years experience at an Animal shelter, pet store or vet clinic Must be a self-starter that can complete tasks as directed with limited need for supervision. Be upbeat, friendly and with a professional attitude. Ability to respond before and immediately any weather emergency, including hurricane preparedness.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
Ability to tolerate and handle exposure to high noise levels, odors, animal bites and scratches, diseases transferable between animals and humans, cleaning agents, insect/parasite controlling chemicals, slippery floors, dust, animal dander and excreta, injured animals, euthanasia and staff/public emotional extremes. Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction). Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid). Ability to lift approximately 50 – 75 lb. animals, with or without assistance. Walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, stooping, reaching and bending. (Reasonable accommodations will be made for otherwise qualified individuals with a disability)
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Works in both indoor and outdoor environments.
