Job Description
Animal Shelter Kennel Manager Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter 870 Bear Creek Rd, Lavonia, GA 30553 The Kennel Manager is responsible for overall management and oversight of the animals in the shelter including the medical care, general husbandry ( feeding, housing and cleaning protocols) as well as enrichment and well being of the housed animals in accordance with Animal Shelter Association guidelines.

Establish appropriate vaccine and deworming protocols in collaboration with the shelter veterinary advisors ( Dr Stone & Dr Cato). Administer (or direct) other treatments as needed. - keep accurate/updated records on animal treatments in software files and on cage cardsTo determine the type and amount of food animals receive.
Supervises the general health of the population including external parasite control as well as monitoring for illness or injury. Ensure that adequate resources, including kennel space , are available for the animals.
To walk dogs several times a day to provide exercise and time for elimination of bowels and bladder. Review, establish and monitor appropriate cleaning and disinfecting protocols. Establish an enrichment program for all the animals. Organize and maintain supplies Staff training and supervision. Setting work schedules for kennel staff. Work with Director to achieve a goal of 90% or higher save rate and reduce overcrowding and length of stay in the shelter. Work with Director to promote an attitude of service and compassion in the staff Identify areas of the shelter property and/or shelter tools that need maintenance Work with board members, volunteers, and maintenance staff to ensure all low-cost maintenance issues are addressed in a timely fashion and within the allotted budget Notify Shelter Director of significant maintenance issues and follow up to ensure important issues are corrected in a timely manner Escort public to new animals. Skills and Knowledge:
Apply knowledge and skills in controlling/handling individual animal temperament. Have ability to gain animal confidence when restraining them for transport, grooming and/or treatment. Knowledge of common diseases, their symptoms and means of transmission, administration of oral medications, assessment of change in animal status. Knowledge of spelling and meaning of commonly used veterinary terminology in order to accurately enter specific information onto animal records.

Work is normally performed inside; some outside work is required. Exposure to unpleasant odors and noises. Exposure to bites, scratches and animal wastes. Possible exposure to contagious diseases. Possible exposure to parasites.
Ability To:
Learn to administer medications and recognize abnormal conditions. Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Physical Effort:
Often requires lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 40 lbs. Frequently requires handling of materials up to 20 lbs. Additionally, handle dogs weighing up to 150 lbs. Walking and/or standing for long periods. Frequently work in a bent position. May be required to use strength or agility in capturing and restraining stronger, more active animals.
Education :
High School Diploma and/or required certifications.
Required Qualifications:
Strong communication, leadership and motivation skills. Has the ability to effectively solve problems dealing with team conflict to personnel issues and performance. Has the ability to direct, guide and assist a group of individuals. Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments. Understand and carry out oral and written direction.
Experience :
Previous experience in an Animal Shelter or related field preferred Other requirements : Valid drivers license, pass a background test.
