Animal Care Technician IUniversity Comparative Medicine Program Location:

New Orleans, LA Summary The Department of Comparative Medicine (DCM) supports the research activities of Tulane University faculty, staff, and students by fostering a comprehensive program of quality animal care. The Animal Care Technician I is an intermediate level position that builds skills in providing husbandry and care to a variety of laboratory animals. The ACT I position works under supervision until deemed proficient by the supervisor. Employees in the classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents. Required to work weekend, holiday, and emergency work schedules. This position is considered essential personnel. Required Qualifications • High School diploma or equivalent.• One year animal husbandry or previous animal care experience. Preferred Qualifications

SPECIAL REQUIRED ABILITY FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES

Ability to complete and pass successfully the required occupational health screening referenced in the University’s Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program on an annual basis.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND CHECK, PHYSICAL, AND DRUG SCREENING FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES

Selected candidates must complete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as a condition of employment. For identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required. The background investigation required occupational health screening, and any required drug screening will be conducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended.
