Animal Shelter Supervisor St. John The Baptist Parish Government 488 West 2nd Street, Laplace, LA 70068 SUMMARY
OF PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION
Plans, assigns, supervises, reviews, and participates in the work of support staff responsible for the daily operation and administrative procedures for the Parish’s Animal Shelter; oversees the enforcement of compliance with Parish, state, and federal codes, regulations and ordinances; and to perform a variety of technical tasks including field and office work relative to assigned areas of responsibility and to ensure efficient operation of the animal shelter.
QUALIFICATIONS
Sufficient experience and education to provide the required knowledge, skills, abilities and to perform the essential duties of position. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess a degree in veterinary technology or related field, animal sciences, management, business, or related field. (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in animal shelter, animal health care, animal hospital, or kennel operations, or equivalent combination of education, experience, or training. Must possess a valid Louisiana driver’s license and driving record acceptable to Parish’s Risk Manager. Must obtain Animal Control Officer certificate of training from LACA within one (1) year of employment. Must obtain CAET license within one (1) year of employment. Required licenses and certifications must be kept current throughout employment in the position.
OTHER:
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Knowledge of methods, equipment, materials used in animal care, restraint, and sheltering; safety practices concerning the humane handling of animals; procedures involved in the enforcement of codes and regulations including methods and techniques of conducting and documenting field investigations. Ability to be on call for evenings, weekends, holidays, and natural disaster response and respond to emergency assistance calls and be on scene within one (1) hour of a call; be comfortable with and participate in the humane euthanasia of animals.
