Krause Animal Foundation, Inc. Dillsburg, PA 17019 About us The Helen O. Krause Animal Foundation, Inc. (HOKAFI) is a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter for abandoned, abused and stray dogs and cats located in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania. The shelter is run primarily by a dedicated corps of volunteers and governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Foundation depends entirely on the private sector for funding through donations, membership dues, grants and fundraising activities. The shelter, founded by the late Helen Opperman Krause, sits on approximately two acres of landscaped grounds in a rural community and consists of a state-of-the-art main cat shelter built in 1999, a remodeled cat shelter annex and a dog kennel. At any given time, this complex is home to as many as 100 cats and kittens and 10 dogs.

  • We are seeking a Medicator to join our team.

This position will offer critical care to the shelter’s cat and dog residents and is responsible for administering antibiotic treatments as recommended by the shelter veterinarians. Medications include but are not limited to pills, liquids, ointments, ear treatments, diabetic injections and special feedings. We are looking for 1 Part Time Medicator for shifts throughout the week, within the hours of 6:00AM

  • 8:00AM.
  • Duties:
  • Administer all medications to residents currently on medicinal/antibiotic treatments.
  • Administer additional treatments such as insulin injection(s), as well as monitor special diets and feeding schedules of diabetic residents.
  • Feed all cats canned food in all shelter rooms/buildings.
  • Carefully observe all pets in the shelter for any signs of illness, and report concerns to the shelter medical committee chairperson; receive and react appropriately to resident medical updates.
  • Initiate medical charts for cats and dogs returning from veterinarian visits, at the request of the medical committee chairperson.
  • Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in animal care or related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic animal care practices and procedures, with a focus on providing excellent care for cat and dog residents.
  • Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
  • Ability to work independently, with good written and oral communication skills.
