Apprentice Marine Mammal Trainer

JOB SUMMARY
An Apprentice Marine Mammal Trainer participates in, and is aware of all aspects of the training department. This includes maintaining all training department protocols, adhering to company policies and fulfilling daily responsibilities concerning the care and training of the Marine Mammals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Accurate and complete record keeping procedures
Food preparation procedures
Daily maintenance and development of exhibits
Complete area related husbandry (cleaning) procedures
Collection of approved medical samples
Assist with veterinary procedures
Administer vitamins and prescribed medications assigned by management
Develop skills necessary animal and guest program interactions
Develop skills necessary for Public narrations and shows
Effective communication between all staff, interns and volunteers
Develop animal training skills through approved opportunities assigned by management
Develop basic operant conditioning skills
Other duties as assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Ability to work varied shifts/weekends/holidays
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
Minimum 3 months experience working with Marine Mammals
Open Water SCUBA certification
Excellent teamwork skills
Excellent public speaking skills
Good swimming ability
