This dual-role position is ideal for someone passionate about behavior, enrichment, and providing exceptional care to dogs in the shelter environment. This position supports training initiatives for staff, volunteers, and the public while also contributing to animal care operations and canine enrichment.

Animal Care Manager and Chief Training Officer •Please note: This position requires at least one year of paid professional experience working with animals in a shelter environment. This is a 5- day per week full-time position, with an early morning start time.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Behavior & Training Support Assist in implementing and reinforcing training protocols for shelter dogs, including basic manners and behavior modification plans. Help facilitate structured playgroups and assist in managing playgroup dynamics according to Furry Friends’ established protocols. Support behavior evaluations and handling level assessments for new dogs. Assist with staff and volunteer training sessions, such as Dog Walking 101 and 102. Provide behavior support and education to adopters and potential adopters, including on-site counseling. Support the Shelter to Service Dog Training Program and other training-focused outreach efforts as directed. Animal Care Perform daily care tasks including feeding, cleaning, exercising, and providing in-kennel and out-of-kennel enrichment. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for animals and staff. Observe and report changes in animal behavior, appetite, and overall well-being to training or medical staff. Assist with meet-and-greets, adoption counseling, and dog introductions as needed. Administer medications and treatments as directed. Combined Operations Work closely with Animal Care and Behavior teams to align training and enrichment with individualized care plans. Participate in the creation and execution of enrichment schedules and behavior plans. Maintain accurate records in Shelterluv of behavior observations, training progress, and enrichment activities. Serve as a role model for kindness, safety, and high quality care in all interactions. Other Duties as Assigned
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum 1 year of professional animal care experience in a shelter environment; experience in a training or behavior support role strongly preferred. Strong handling skills with all sizes and temperaments of dogs. Customer-focused, non-judgmental communication style. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize competing demands. Comfort with physical demands of the role: lifting up to 40 pounds, working on your feet for extended periods, and exposure to outdoor elements. Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled.

Strenuous physical activity in all weather conditions Ability to handle dogs in excess of 60lbs.
