Do you thrive managing programs, building relationships, and engaging communities? As our Foster Coordinator , you will own the end-to-end success of HSSC’s foster care program. From recruiting and training new foster families to ensuring DVM-approved treatment plans are executed flawlessly, you’ll be the bridge between our shelter, medical teams, and adoptive homes. Because of our volume of neonatal kittens, your expertise in neonatal care—including bottle feeding, temperature regulation, and weight monitoring—will be essential. Why HSSC? The Foster Coordinator should have experience coordinating a large group of foster homes and be adept at neonatal care. What You’ll Do:
Foster Family Recruitment & Training:

Source, screen, and onboard diverse foster homes; deliver core training on animal care, behavior, and medical protocols.

Placement & Ongoing Support:

Match neonates, medical or behavior-challenged pets with ideal caregivers; coordinate pick-ups/returns, troubleshoot issues, and provide regular check-ins.

Medical & Behavioral Oversight:

Conduct intake exams (vaccines, diagnostics), oversee neonatal bottle-feeding and DVM-approved treatment plans, and ensure accurate record-keeping in ShelterLuv.

Program Promotion & Outreach:

Partner on social media, events, and marketing materials; guide foster families in creating adoption profiles to boost visibility and placements.

Cross-Team Collaboration:

Work seamlessly with intake, medical, and adoption teams; evaluate program metrics and feedback to refine processes; cross-train in related roles for operational continuity.

Staff & Volunteer Education:

Develop and present targeted workshops on foster care best practices, medical procedures, and disease prevention.

Requirements:
What We’re Looking For:

5+ years direct experience in an animal shelter, veterinary clinic, or vet-tech role (shelter/VetTech experience required) Proven experience in neonatal care for puppies and kittens—bottle feeding, round-the-clock monitoring, and early development support Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) preferred but not required Proficient (or willing to learn) Microsoft Office 365; ShelterLuv experience a plus Strong data entry, documentation, and record-keeping accuracy Fear Free Animal Handling certification (or willingness to obtain) Florida Humane Euthanasia certification (must obtain within 6 months) Valid Florida driver’s license & clean record; comfort with frequent animal transport Skilled in basic medical procedures: blood draws, vaccinations, microchipping Exceptional verbal and written communication; confident speaking to groups of caregivers and volunteers Deep comfort and competence with neonatal, fractious, or medically compromised animals Emotional resilience, professionalism, and a heart aligned with HSSC’s mission and values Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
