Job Description
Kennel Technician 3.5 3.5 out of 5 stars 1700 Palestine Rd, Picayune, MS 39466 Apply in person at 1700 Palestine Road, Picayune, Ms 39466. Tuesday – Saturday 10 AM – 4 PM. No phone calls.
Primary Purpose:
Provide for the overall welfare of all dogs and/or cats.
Essential Functions:
Monitor health and well-being of dogs/cats. Immediately report any health or medical issues to Supervisor. Cleans kennels, feeds, grooms, exercises, and administers medication(s) to dogs/cats. Completes medical documentation as directed. Must possess good verbal and written communication skills; Must have a genuine interest in and concern for the overall well-being of animals and demonstrate empathy and compassion for Shelter animals; Ability to recognize signs/symptoms of disease and to handle dangerous and/or injured animals with a minimum of personal risk; Ability to remain calm and effective in stressful situations. Other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience:
High School Diploma required. Previous kennel or veterinary experience preferred. Must possess valid Driver’s License. Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of the organization. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities to completion. Problem solving skills with an analytical thought process. Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. Nature of Work Reporting to the immediate Supervisor and/or Shelter Manager Ensures highest quality care and treatment of all animals Responsible for all cleaning and feeding of shelter animals Responsible for monitoring the health and behavior of all shelter animals Willingness to work weekends Responsible for providing assistance for special events and fundraising or adoption activities Animal Care Follow medical protocols for any medical or behavioral concerns; Assisting with animal adoptions in safe and friendly manner Administer medications to animals on treatment schedule; Cleaning cages & kennels and ensuring animals are comfortable and healthy, daily Feeding all animals in your area Train dogs Make sure cage cards are posted at all times Walking large and small dogs Caring for cats Bathing dogs and cats Report any signs of illness immediately to vet staff Must be willing to carry out any other duties as requested by supervisor or Shelter Manager.
Working Conditions:
Work is based in a busy kennel environment and subject to frequent interruptions. Frequent work outside and in inclement weather conditions is required, including heat, cold, and humidity. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include early morning, extended, or weekend hours.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 75 lbs. Requires standing for long periods of time in all weather conditions. Requires intermittent sitting, walking, running, climbing, squatting, stretching, bending and kneeling. Requires constant use of hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms
