Far Fetched Acres is a behavior and training facility located in New York’s Hudson Valley. We are a social, boarding, and training environment that caters to active, social dogs, many of whom are from NYC. With a strong commitment to R+ (positive reinforcement) training, we emphasize humane, science-based methods to ensure the well-being and growth of our canine clients.

Position Summary:

The Senior Dog Trainer at Far Fetched Acres will oversee our Dog Behavior and Board & Train programs, creating and implementing training plans, managing the daily well-being of dogs in our care, and mentoring junior trainers. The ideal candidate is experienced in science-based, positive reinforcement training, knowledgeable about canine behavior, and able to work effectively with both dogs and their human clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement training and behavior plans for dogs in training. Train, proof, and generalize new behaviors for Board & Train guests. Supervise and mentor Behavior Apprentices and Assistant Trainers. Maintain detailed reports on training and behavior activities. Create video and educational materials for clients. Communicate progress with clients and city-based training teams. Train staff on safe dog handling, body language, and facility protocols. Assist with general dog care tasks as needed, including feeding, grooming, and cleaning. Participate in enrichment and play activities to maintain a healthy environment for all dogs.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

Minimum of 2+ years of experience in R+ training and a strong understanding of dog behavior. Experience in dog-dog play and interaction management. Self-motivated, team-oriented, and passionate about animal welfare. Preferred certifications include CPDT, PPG, Karen Pryor, or Catch Academy. Skilled in client communication and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements:

Reliable transportation to Chatham, NY, or plans to relocate. Physical stamina to stand, walk, bend, and kneel frequently, with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Flexible schedule, with availability for some weekends and holidays. At least 1 year of professional experience in positive reinforcement dog training (required).

Preferred but not required:
