Indian River State College is seeking a passionate Skincare & Nail Specialist to teach hands-on techniques in facials, manicures, and other essential salon services. In this role, you’ll work directly with students in the classroom and clinical settings—supervising salon activities, promoting industry best practices, and fostering a welcoming environment for all. You’ll help students build confidence and real-world skills while supporting an inclusive and professional learning atmosphere.

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, this position provides hands-on instruction, and evaluation of technical knowledge and trade skills. Work with a diverse student body and client base, fostering a culture of inclusion and cultural competence as an integral part of the IRSC team.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Management and Supervision:

The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: supervising work of students in class and clinic work; testing and evaluating achievement of students in technical knowledge and trade skills; working with clients or students from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, and academic backgrounds Instructing facial students in both theory and clinical settings; and other duties as assigned or associated with a successful program and salon operation. Supervise and manage salon activities and ensure a safe, efficient, and productive environment. Provide support and guidance to students/staff in the application of cosmetology skills. Ensure timely attendance and preparedness for all salon activities; communicate any absences to the Department Chair and Dean, and complete necessary documentation. Oversee the implementation of the salon curriculum, ensuring alignment with industry standards. Monitor and document attendance, ensuring compliance with administrative requirements. Maintain and enforce all safety procedures and best practices in the salon. Perform necessary duties to sustain a successful salon program.

Exhibit professional conduct and behavior in all salon interactions. Foster positive relationships with clients, staff, and the broader college community. Uphold high ethical and moral standards, representing the college with integrity. Stay informed about and adhere to college policies and procedures.

Collaborate effectively with a diverse range of clients and staff. Promote an inclusive and respectful salon atmosphere, celebrating diversity.

Adaptability:

Follow assigned schedules, locations, and tasks, demonstrating flexibility to meet the salon’s needs. Adapt to evolving program requirements and operational demands. Perform additional duties as necessary to ensure the success of the salon. Complete any other tasks assigned by the Dean of Workforce Education.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or the equivalent. Associate Degree or higher preferred Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable, proven work experience in a commercial salon Valid Florida current Florida registration in the field of esthetics Graduation from a regionally-accredited cosmetology training institution experience in a commercial salon; and proven knowledge of instructional strategies for promoting student learning and success in all subject areas of cosmetology and cosmetology-related programs. Meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of hair styling, permanent waving, hair coloring, manicuring, facial make-up, massage, skin, hair, and scalp disorders Demonstrated knowledge of instructional strategies for cosmetology and related programs Strong theoretical and practical expertise in various aspects of cosmetology Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires an ability to sit, stand for extended periods of time, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, the use of various chemicals and solutions required for cosmetology and barbering procedures, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College. Ability to travel to and pick up miscellaneous supplies from local vendors for materials for student training and make good purchasing decisions or substitutions; Physically demonstrate new and unique methods and materials; IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
