Description
The COS Clinical Coordinator/Instructional Staff is responsible for the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and overall effectiveness for the clinical experiences of the students in the Cosmetology program. The COS Clinical Coordinator is a professional, credentialed instructional staff member responsible for providing quality learning experiences in credit or non-credit courses in their area of expertise for all Alamance Community College (ACC) students. Instructional staff are responsible for providing learning experiences on the main campus and off-site. Instructional staff are responsible for but are not limited to planning, organizing, promoting, and teaching appropriate courses, to include online and hybrid. Instructional staff are also responsible for academic advising, follow-up support services, recruitment, and performing other duties as assigned. The Clinical Coordinator is expected to perform all related duties in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of the College, the North Carolina Community College System, and in accordance with any and all accrediting bodies. Under the supervision of the department head, the clinical coordinator will educate and train students to gain skills, knowledge and behaviors and support successful entry into the workplace.

Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Coordination (Approx. 50%)
Clinic Management:
Coordinate and supervise all clinical activities, including client scheduling, clinic operations, and student assignments.
Collaborate with the department head to develop and implement clinical policies and procedures.
Maintain and update clinical records, attendance, and performance evaluations.

Monitor inventory and ensure adequate clinic supplies, materials, and equipment are maintained.
Ensure all clinical activities comply with North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners regulations and safety/sanitation standards. Maintain accurate records of student clinical hours, competencies, and site evaluations using a digital record keeping system.
As needed manage front desk operations for client appointments, payments and customer service.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, clinical hours, and other important data. Submit reports and documentation according to college policies and regulatory requirements.
Attend and contribute to departmental, faculty, and committee meetings as required. Participate in college events, including graduation ceremonies, open houses, and standing committees. Establish and maintain relationships with local cosmetic service providers, professional organizations, and other stakeholders to enhance the program’s reputation and resources.
Maintain a clean and functional teaching environment by ensuring equipment and supplies are available and in working order. Conform to OSHA standards and ensure the safety and functionality of the lab and clinical environments.
Other duties, responsibilities and tasks as assigned by the Department Head or dean in meeting the needs of the program, department, division, and the College.
Instruction:

Serve as instructional staff in COS courses, ensuring lessons are aligned with curriculum objectives and industry practices, including possible evening classes.
Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and competencies.
Facilitate a variety of teaching methods for the demonstration of skills. Provide students with hands-on training in key skills required for cosmetology in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
Assess and evaluate student progress and provide timely feedback.
Oversee the maintenance and organization of clinic equipment, supplies, and materials. Ensure the clinic and lab environment meets safety, OSHA, and regulatory standards, providing a safe work environment for students.
Attend and contribute to faculty meetings, professional development, and college events.
Collaboration & Professional Development:
Work closely with faculty members to align clinical and laboratory instruction with the overall program curriculum. Participate in program advisory committees, attend departmental meetings, and serve as backup for faculty members as needed.
Stay current with industry trends, dental technologies, and educational best practices through ongoing professional development and continuing education. Retain professional status by participating in required activities to maintain currency in the field and COS credentials as required by college and program accreditation.
Participate in curriculum development by evaluating course content, participating in program reviews, and engaging in accreditation processes to continuously improve the quality of the Cosmetology Program.
Student Support & Advising:
Provide academic and professional guidance to students, including advising on clinical performance, career opportunities, and program progression.
Identify students who need additional support and provide remediation or tutoring to help them meet program competencies. Support student learning by responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner.
Engage in activities that promote student retention, including monitoring student progress, providing timely feedback, and addressing student concerns. Refer students to campus and community resources to develop strategies for success.

Experience Required:
Associate’s degree, a NC Cosmetology License and a NC Cosmetology Instructor’s License
OR
NC Cosmetology License and a NC Cosmetology Instructor’s License and industry experience and/or demonstrated competencies in teaching specific cosmetology courses
