Job Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Medical Assistant (MA) to join our team at The Bluffs Med Spa and Massage. The MA will perform basic clinical and administrative duties under the direct supervision of licensed medical professionals, supporting injectable aesthetic procedures (e.g., neurotoxin & fillers) and functional medicine services. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, proficient in Microsoft Word and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems, and has phlebotomy experience (preferred). This role requires excellent patient care coordination and a commitment to maintaining a safe, compliant clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
Greet patients, escort them to exam rooms, and prepare them for examinations. Take and record vital signs Collect and document patient medical histories (e.g., allergies, medications, past surgeries) in EMR systems, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and South Carolina privacy laws. Assist providers during injectable aesthetic procedures (e.g., Botox, dermal fillers) and functional medicine consultations, including handing instruments, preparing supplies, and applying topical agents as directed. Perform phlebotomy and centrifuge for diagnostic testing (preferred skill), following sterile techniques and OSHA standards.
Administrative Duties:
Coordinate patient care, including scheduling appointments, follow-ups, and referrals using practice management software. Verify insurance, obtain pre-authorizations, and assist with billing/coding (e.g., CPT, ICD-10). Maintain accurate patient records in EMR systems, ensuring confidentiality and compliance. Answer phones, respond to patient inquiries, monitor faxes and relay messages to providers.
Office Maintenance:
Prepare and sterilize instruments and exam rooms, adhering to infection control protocols (e.g., OSHA, CDC). Monitor and reorder clinical supplies to ensure availability.
Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program (Certified Medical Assistant [CMA] or Registered Medical Assistant [RMA] preferred). Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems (e.g., Epic, Athenahealth). Strong organizational and communication skills, with a patient-centered approach. Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a team under direct supervision. Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, and South Carolina healthcare regulations.
Preferred:
Phlebotomy experience or certification. Experience in aesthetic medicine (e.g., injectables) or functional medicine settings. Familiarity with medical spa operations.
Supervision:
The MA will work under the direct supervision of a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant, as required by South Carolina Code § 40-47-106. All clinical tasks must be delegated and overseen by a licensed provider to ensure compliance with state law.
