ESSENTIAL SKILL/KNOWLEDGE FUNCTIONS
Tends laundering machines to clean sheets, blankets, pillow coverings, and personal articles of patients Loads articles into washer and adds specified amount of detergent or other cleaning agents Lifts, clean, wet articles from washer and places them successively into wringers and dryers for measured time cycles Sorts dry articles according to identification Folds and places items in appropriate storage bin Folds and sorts clothes Hangs clothes on racks according to name and numbers Delivers patients laundry to designated areas Ensures the patients clothes are ready to wear, and any in disrepair put in proper place Understands functions of various soaps and bleaches Follows precautions as stated on SDS for all chemicals used Washes and dries clothes and linens Keeps equipment clean and follows cleaning schedules Sweeps and mops laundry area Reports any needed repairs to maintenance department Operates large equipment (Washers, dryers, etc.) Cleans lint traps/filters according to established schedules Handling of soiled laundry items Sorts and folds various laundry items (blankets, sheets, towels etc.) Cleans and disinfects linen carts as required Empties washers and dryers as requested/necessary Operates water, gas, and electric cutoff switches and valves Stain removal

Participate in Nursing Center surveys (Licensure / JCAHO) and any subsequently required reports. Attend and participate in continuing educational programs to keep abreast on changes in your field as well as to maintain current license/certification, as required. Attend and participate in mandatory in-services. Tasks assigned to this position may involve potential and/or direct exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious disease, air contaminants and hazardous chemicals. May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset patients, family members, associates and visitors.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Many associates are designated to one portion of the laundry room where they are required to either fold laundry, or load and unload machines. Associates may be required to also walk throughout the facility while delivering personal items to patients rooms. This position is extremely physical and associate must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. of weight.
