Summary/Objective In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the Residents we serve, the Laundry Worker plays a critical role in providing general laundry services to all Residents in the facility. The Laundry Worker’s main function is to wash, dry, fold and mend clothing while following infection control and safety procedures. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 1. Sorts soiled laundry in accordance with established infection control procedures. 2. Loads and unloads laundry into and out of washing and drying machines using laundry chemicals and monitors machines while in use. 3. Sorts, labels, folds, mends, counts and irons clean laundry. 4. Assure that established infection control and standard precaution practices are maintained at all times. Follow established safety precautions when preforming tasks and using equipment and supplies. 5. Reports all hazardous conditions, damaged equipment, and supply issues to the supervisor. 6. Maintains the comfort, privacy and dignity of Residents/residents and interacts with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect and promotes a caring environment. 7. Must answer and respond to call lights promptly and courteously when working in Resident care areas. 8. Assists with training of new staff. 9. Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with Residents, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors. 10. Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in-services as directed. Work Environment This job operates in a health care setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the facility while pulling or pushing carts. This position works mostly in the Laundry Department which may involve exposure to heat, humidity and loud noises form laundry machines. This role may also come into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. . Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This position is part of a health care facility that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required. Required Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred Education and Experience 1 or more years experience
