Job Description

UAS Terrain Model Specialist & Tether System Developer 2.5 2.5 out of 5 stars Durham, NH USNH Employees should apply within Workday through the Jobs Hub app We are seeking a technically skilled and detail-oriented UAS Terrain Model Specialist to convert drone-acquired topographic data into 3D printable STL files, manage the 3D printing and post-processing of terrain models, and contribute to the development of a powered tether system to enable near-continuous drone flight. The ideal candidate will also be responsible for comprehensive documentation of all workflows and innovations, with bonus consideration for artistic skills such as terrain painting and realistic model finishing. 3

D Model Development :

Process drone-based UAS topographic data (e.g., photogrammetry, LiDAR) into accurate digital terrain models. Convert these models into STL or similar formats optimized for 3D printing. Modify and segment large terrain datasets for modular printing and assembly. 3

D Printing Oversight :

Manage the 3D printing workflow including slicing, printer operation, material selection, and quality control. Oversee the assembly and fitting of printed terrain models, ensuring topographic accuracy and structural integrity. Perform optional painting and finishing of terrain models for presentation or educational use.

Tether System Development :

Assist in the research, design, and prototyping of a powered tether system for drones to enable extended or continuous flight operations. Collaborate with engineering and drone operations teams to test, refine, and document the system.

Documentation and Reporting :

Maintain detailed documentation of all processes, prototypes, models, and system modifications. Produce written reports, schematics, and visual aids for internal and external communication. Archive project files and workflows to ensure reproducibility and institutional knowledge.
