INTRODUCTION
The Boarding Veterinary Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring quality care for both boarding pets and general practice patients. This position is a hybrid role that requires flexibility, teamwork, and a passion for animal care. The assistant will work closely with the boarding team, veterinarians, technicians, and client service representatives to provide seamless patient care and support hospital operations. Each Assistant is always eager to help wherever needed. The daily checklist, restraining, and cleaning are the foundation of this position. They aid the technicians in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of basic pet handling and cleaning detail. They have a very significant role in communicating with our staff about our client’s pets. Boarding Veterinary Assistant Team Members provide excellent care as well as provide effective inter-staff communication and problem solving while continuing to cultivate a positive culture based on VHA Core Values and Mission statement.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Entry-level position; prior pet handling experience preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer proficiency. Good personal hygiene and appropriate dress. Team-oriented, self-motivated, and detail-oriented. Excellent documentation and organizational skills. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Compassionate, patient, and respectful towards animals and clients. No medical or physical conditions preventing the successful completion of duties. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and leash walk dogs up to 100 lbs. with pulling. Willingness to work holidays, weekends, and flexible shifts. –
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care and Clinical Support Assist veterinarians and technicians in patient care, restraint, and medical procedures with compassion and professionalism. Ensure hospital areas, including exam rooms, surgical suites, and treatment areas, are clean, well-stocked, and client-ready. Utilize fear-free and low-stress handling techniques to ensure patient comfort and safety. Maintain accurate patient records and medical history documentation as directed. Assist in laboratory sample collection, processing, and diagnostic procedures under technician or veterinarian supervision. Support client service by assisting in check-in, check-out, and client education on basic pet care. Follow hospital protocols, biosecurity standards, and compliance regulations to ensure a safe and sterile work environment. Collaborate with the veterinary team to ensure efficient hospital workflow and seamless patient care.
