Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Mid-Level Veterinary Assistant & Shelter Animal Adoption Coordinator to join our team. This hybrid role combines the hands-on veterinary assistance you love with the rewarding responsibilities of helping shelter animals find their forever homes through the Homeless Pets Foundation. Key Responsibilities:
Veterinary Assistant Duties:
Assist veterinarians and technicians during examinations, procedures, and treatments Prepare exam rooms, ensure cleanliness, and maintain a well-organized clinical environment Monitor patient comfort, safety, and recovery under the direction of veterinary staff Administer medications, vaccines, and basic treatments as directed Maintain accurate medical records and communicate updates to the veterinary team Adoption Coordinator Duties for
Homeless Pets Foundation:
List shelter animals on approved animal rescue platforms to promote adoption Monitor and coordinate the medical needs of shelter animals, including vaccines, wellness exams, and diagnostic tests Respond to inquiries from potential adopters, providing detailed information on available animals and the adoption process Collaborate with regional shelters on rescue partnerships and facilitate the transfer of animals as needed Handle inquiries from pet owners interested in surrendering their animals, evaluating each case to determine the best possible outcome
Qualifications:
Prior experience as a veterinary assistant, veterinary technician assistant, or animal care professional Strong knowledge of basic veterinary procedures, animal handling, and medical terminology Excellent communication and customer service skills Ability to multitask, stay organized, and work efficiently in a busy clinical environment A passion for animal welfare and a commitment to supporting both pets and potential adopters Familiarity with animal adoption processes and related online platforms is a plus
