Pet Care Center is located in Chalmette, Louisiana and has been serving the community since 2011. We are a full-service animal hospital providing veterinary care to dogs and cats. We welcome both emergency treatment cases as well as pet patients in need of routine medical, surgical, and dental care. We also specialize in boarding and grooming! Overview:
The Whole Team is responsible for providing a clean, efficient and healthy environment for the animals being treated or boarded at the hospital. A day in the life of every teammate at our
Hospitat:
Maintain the cleanliness of the hospital, including kennel area, runs, treatment area, and outside grounds. Feed hospitalized animals and boarders. Monitor and record important information about the animals’ conditions, behavior and habits (elimination, eating, etc.). Walk animals three times a day. Notify the Doctor or a Veterinary Technician/Assistant of unusual medical or behavioral problems. Clean treatment, exam, surgery and lab areas daily. Maintain laundry throughout the day and keep laundry area neat. Assist the Doctor and Veterinary Assistant with restraint and treatment of animals. Monitor and maintain the kennel inventory to include food, cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, etc. Perform other duties as assigned that assist the Doctor, Receptionist and Veterinarian Technicians/Assistants in the smooth flow and operation of the clinic, care of clients and service to the clients.
Position Skills:
For a Veterinary Assistant the following skills would be desirable:
- 1 Year of experience in a clinical setting is desirable, but we are a growing team and we are open to training employees that want to further their technical skills
- Animal handling and restraint dogs, cats
- Fear Free Handling
- Administering medications (oral, topical) Assisting with exams, surgeries, and procedures Taking and developing X-rays Monitoring vital signs and recovery post-procedure Sample collection (urine, feces) Maintaining patient records/client communications Client education and communication Compassionate client service and support Taking patient histories accurately Feeding, watering, and exercising animals Cleaning and disinfecting kennels, cages, and exam rooms Laundry and sterilization of equipment Inventory management and stocking supplies Scheduling appointments and follow-ups Basic billing a payment processing Managing phones and front desk tasks when Teamwork and collaboration with veterinarians and techs For a Registered Veterinary Technician the following skills, in addition to the skills mentioned above, would be desirable: Professional client communication and education obtaining medical histories and symptoms Laboratory procedures including but not limited to: hematology, cytology, urinalysis, microbiology, blood chemistry, and fecals Diagnostic imaging and implementing safety protocols of fellow staff members Nursing skills including: restraining patients, administering medications PO/IV/SUBQ/IM, proficient IV catheter placement and venipuncture, surgery prep, anesthesia monitoring

Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED preferred. Flexible schedule including some weekend/holiday shifts. Must have computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Must possess strong communication skills, good judgment and be able to manage stressful situations. Must have the physical and mental capacity to perform in a fast paced and challenging environment.
