We are a progressive full spectrum AHAA accredited small animal hospital seeking a motivated, dedicated, hard-working, vet assistant to join our team. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES A

veterinary assistant plays a crucial role in supporting veterinarians and ensuring the smooth operation of a veterinary clinic or hospital. The specific duties and responsibilities may vary as we are a growing hospital and veterinary medicine is evolving. The essential job duties for a veterinary assistant includes:

Animal Care:

Assisting in the handling and Fear Free and Cat Friendly restraint of animals during examinations and procedures. Feeding, bathing, and providing basic care for animals admitted to the clinic. Nail trim, ear cleaning, anal gland expression, venipuncture, fecal and lab collection. Implement Fear Free techniques for stress reduction and positive experiences. Apply cat-friendly handling techniques for feline patients. Soothe upset or frightened animals Perform radiographs In-house diagnostics including microscopy

Clinical Support:

Preparing and cleaning examination rooms and treatment areas for procedures and hospital workspace. Assisting with administration of specific medications under the supervision of the DVM and RVT.

Client Interaction:

Excellent customer service skills Client education Greeting and assisting clients when they arrive at the clinic. Providing information to clients regarding basic animal care and post-treatment instructions. Scheduling appointments and handling phone inquiries. Good communication skills, both written and verbal

Record Keeping:

Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records. Importing previous history appropriate into records. Documenting vital signs, medications, and treatments administered to animals. Pharmacy drug handling protocols- Label and medication handling. Computer skills; experience with Idexx Cornerstone is a plus.

Administrative Tasks:

Managing inventory of veterinary supplies. Assisting with general administrative tasks, such as filing and data entry. Managing incoming and outgoing prescription requests per the hospital’s standards.

Cleaning and Maintenance :

Ensuring cleanliness and hygiene within the clinic, including animal kennels, examination rooms, and common areas. Performing routine cleaning tasks to maintain a sanitary environment.

Education and Compliance:

Educating pet owners on preventive care and wellness practices. Adhering to veterinary protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Attend bi-monthly mandatory hospital meetings which include CE. Advise pet owners on nutrition and healthcare

Team Collaboration:

Collaborating with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and other staff members to provide comprehensive care. Communicating effectively within the veterinary team.

Emergency Response:

Assisting in emergency situations, including first aid and basic life support for animals. Obtaining proper history and financial status in an efficient way

Professional Development:

Participating in ongoing training and education to stay informed about advancements in veterinary care. Collaborate with the veterinary team to continuously improve and enhance patient care. Participate in Fear Free and Cat Friendly training programs. Current or former pet ownership is an advantage (not necessary) Excellent customer service skills 3 years is a must Patient and caring personality Ability to follow instructions properly as we are healthcare providers Comfortable being around animals (cats, dogs, ) Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (e.g. lift up to 40 lbs) Availability to occasionally work in emergencies

Schedule:

10 hour shift Weekends Open 7 days a week
