Pope Memorial Humane Society – Cocheco Valley is seeking individuals to join our team on a per-diem basis. Responsibilities:
Assist the shelter veterinarian in conducting routine examinations, vaccinations, and medical treatments for animals in the shelter. Prepare and assist in surgical procedures, including pre-operative preparations, monitoring anesthesia, and post-operative care. Perform and assist with diagnostic tests and procedures such as urinalysis, blood tests, and other laboratory work. Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by veterinarians. Safely and compassionately handle animals during examinations, treatments, and procedures. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all animals, ensuring proper documentation of treatments and medications. Interact with adopters, foster families, and other members of the community, providing information on animal health and care. Monitor the health and behaviors of animals in the shelter, identifying and reporting any signs of illness or distress. Ensure the cleanliness and sterilization of surgical and medical equipment, as well as maintaining a sanitary environment in the clinic area. Collaborate with other staff members, volunteers, and external veterinary professionals to ensure the highest standard of care for shelter animals.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of veterinary medical procedures and terminology. Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Animal handling and restraint skills.
Requirements:
Previous veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience in a veterinary practice or shelter environment. Certification or degree in veterinary technology is a plus! Fear Free Certification is a plus! Availability needed for Mondays and Wednesdays!
