Veterinary Assistant/Technician Simmons Animal Hospital Philadelphia, PA 19145 Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in providing high-quality care to animals while supporting our veterinary staff in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal welfare and possess the necessary skills to assist in various veterinary procedures and daily operations. Responsibilities Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures, ensuring the comfort and safety of animals. Perform routine tasks such as taking vital signs, administering medications, and preparing animals for surgery. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinic, including sterilizing instruments and managing supplies. Provide basic pet care, including feeding, bathing, and exercising animals as needed. Assist with animal restraint during examinations and treatments to ensure safety for both the animal and staff. Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding their pets’ health and care instructions. Document patient information accurately in medical records, including dental terminology when applicable. Support kennel operations by monitoring animal behavior and health while they are in our care. Requirements Previous experience in a veterinary setting or related field is preferred but not required. Knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and common veterinary practices is essential. Familiarity with dental terminology and X-ray procedures is a plus. Strong skills in animal restraint techniques to ensure safe handling of various species. Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a calm demeanor around animals. Excellent communication skills to interact with clients and team members effectively. A genuine love for animals and commitment to their well-being is crucial for success in this role.
