ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
- Assist the veterinarian during ophthalmic examinations, surgeries, and procedures.
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, ensuring their comfort.
- Help administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Monitor patients’ comfort and safety before and after procedures.
- Educate pet owners on eye health, treatment plans, and preventive care.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
- Ensure a clean and organized clinical environment, adhering to safety and sanitation protocols.
- Collaborate with the veterinary team to provide excellent patient care and client communication.
This includes cross training and support of reception on an as needed basis.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to be confident around pets (e.g., cats and dogs)
- Client needs and work volume may require more than 40 hours per week, including occasional weekends and evenings.
- The noise level in the work environment may occasionally be high (e.g., barking dogs).
- Ability to follow instructions in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
- Requires ambulatory ability to perform duties while at the clinic.
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb, as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
- Requires good hand-eye coordination and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment, and read information.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Veterinary assistants are routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch and may occasionally be exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medication/controlled substances.
- As the business expands, travel may be required to new clinic locations.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND/OR TRAINING
- Prior experience as a veterinary assistant or in a related role preferred, but not essential.
- Strong knowledge of small animal veterinary practice preferred; experience in ophthalmology is a plus but not essential.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
