$15.00 – $18.00 / hour Description Animal Emergency & Specialty Center in Knoxville is seeking a responsible, dedicated, and compassionate part-time Kennel Assistant to join our team. This is a weekend-only position, providing essential support in caring for the animals in our facility. Weekends and certain Holidays are required to fill the needs of this position. You will work closely with our veterinary staff and other team members to ensure a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for our animal patients. This role is ideal for someone with a love for animals, an eye for detail, and an ability to work independently.

Hourly Wage:
$15-$18 per hour (pending experience) Some of the responsibilities you will own in this role:
Animal Care & Well-Being:
Feed, water, and provide basic care to animals housed in the kennel area. Monitor the animals for any signs of illness or distress and report observations to the veterinary team. Assist in administering medications and treatments as directed by veterinary staff. Walk and exercise animals as needed, ensuring they receive appropriate physical activity and socialization.
Facility Cleaning & Maintenance:
Maintain cleanliness of the kennel and surrounding areas, including cleaning cages, kennels, and common areas. Regularly sanitize surfaces, floors, and equipment to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for both animals and staff. Handle waste disposal and ensure appropriate removal and cleaning protocols are followed. Assist with laundering towels, bedding, and other linens used for animal care. Animal Intake and Discharge:
Assist in the intake process for new animals, including ensuring proper documentation and setup of their designated spaces. Assist with the discharge process, ensuring the safe return of pets to their owners and updating records as needed.
Customer Service:
Greet clients and assist with questions or concerns regarding the animals in our care. Support a positive, compassionate, and professional environment for both animals and their families.
Team Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with the veterinary team, technicians, and other kennel assistants to ensure smooth operations. Follow instructions from veterinary staff regarding animal care and special needs. Assist with special projects, including facility improvement or upgrades as needed.
Safety & Emergency Procedures:
Follow all safety protocols when handling animals and cleaning the facility. Be vigilant in identifying potential hazards or issues that may affect animal safety or well-being. Remain calm and responsive in emergency situations, assisting staff as needed.
What You’ll Bring:
Must be available to work weekends and holidays, including occasional evenings. Prior experience with animals (including pets or in a kennel setting) is preferred but not required. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to lift and move animals of various sizes as needed. Must be reliable, punctual, and maintain a positive, professional attitude at all times.
