Contract Overview Are you passionate about animal health andeager to make a difference in a dynamic research environment? Weare seeking a skilled and motivated Animal Health Technician tojoin our team. In this role, you will provide veterinary healthcareservices to laboratory animal populations under the supervision ofan Animal Resources Veterinarian or Senior Animal HealthTechnologist. You will be instrumental in preventive care programs,surgical support, animal health assessments, and compliance withanimal welfare standards, while continuously advancing yourtechnical skills through training and development opportunities.
Responsibilities Support the preventive medicine program, includingphysical examinations, vaccinations, disease control, healthsurveillance programs, and dental prophylaxis. Assist with theenvironmental enrichment program for all laboratory animal species.
Maintain and operate the aseptic surgical suite, providing pre-,peri-, and post-operative care (including induction and maintenanceof anesthesia, pain management, fluid and antibioticadministration, and wound care). Participate in large and smallanimal health rounds and report abnormalities to the AnimalResources Veterinarian. Collect specimens and submit samples fordiagnostic laboratory analysis. Administer basic veterinarytreatments under veterinarian guidance. Participate in in-servicetraining sessions and workshops to enhance technical skills andknowledge base. Ensure compliance with applicable animal welfareregulations, practice safe work habits, and maintain detailedrecords in accordance with SOPs and policies. Work a flexibleschedule including weekends, holidays, and occasional off-hours asneeded. Qualifications Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree inveterinary animal health technology or an equivalent program thatincludes a minimum of one year of hands-on veterinary technicalexperience. AALAS certification (or willingness to obtain) isdesirable. Ability to triage clinical cases and veterinaryemergencies and distinguish normal from abnormal clinicalpresentations across a variety of laboratory animal species.
Proficiency in calculating and administering medications throughvarious routes. Skilled in operating basic veterinary diagnosticequipment and writing comprehensive medical records. Strong workingknowledge of animal welfare regulations and medical terminology.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
