First Coast No More Homeless Pets (FCNMHP) is a leading non-profit veterinary hospital dedicated to reducing shelter deaths and improving the lives of underprivileged pets. As one of the largest spay/neuter facilities in the nation, we strive to make veterinary care affordable and accessible to all. We offer low-cost veterinary services with a focus on high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter programs for both community cats and owned pets.
Position Overview:
We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Surgery Veterinary Technician to join our high-volume surgery department. In this role, you’ll provide critical support for surgical procedures, ensuring top-quality care for our patients. A positive attitude, professionalism, and team spirit are essential in our fast-paced environment. If you are passionate about veterinary care but lack experience in high-volume surgery, we offer training to help you grow and succeed.
Primary Duties:
Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments. Assist with surgical prep, including anesthesia induction and patient positioning. Monitor patients pre- and post-op to ensure their comfort and recovery. Support veterinarians during surgeries as needed. Perform diagnostics and lab procedures, including sample collection. Provide nursing care such as administering medication and wound care. Assist with maintaining hospital cleanliness and efficiency.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a veterinary technician, preferably in a surgical setting. Strong technical skills in patient monitoring, surgical prep, and lab work. Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment. Positive, professional, and team-oriented mindset. Excellent time management and work ethic. Compassionate approach to animal care.
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Ability to handle and restrain animals of various sizes. Potential exposure to animal bites, cleaning chemicals, and loud noise. Ability to bend, twist, stand, and walk for long periods. Frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds; assistance available for heavier loads. The mission of First Coast No More Homeless Pets is to make veterinary care affordable and accessible to all as we save lives by keeping dogs and cats in homes and out of shelters, provide low cost spay/neuter services with emphasis on feral/community cats, and deliver a broad range of related programs and services.
