About Us:

Paws Bay Animal Hospital is a new privately owned hospital opening March 31, 2025. It is owned and operated by Dr. Heather Highbrown. We are looking to build an enthusiastic team that is ready to share their love of animals and veterinary medicine with the community and build a hospital we can all be proud of. We can’t wait for you to join the team!! We are located in a beautiful, spacious, newer state of the art facility with 4 exam rooms, a dental suite, spacious treatment and lab areas and a spacious surgery room. In house labs are done using Idexx equipment including the newest models of blood analyzers, urine sedivue and their new digital cellular analyzer for cytology. Digital Idexx radiology machine as well as a newer model handheld dental radiology unit. High quality anesthesia monitoring equipment in both surgical areas. Position type and expected hours of work:

  • Initially this will be a part time position as we will be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Additional days will be added as we become busier. Also accepting applications for 1-2 shifts per week
  • Shifts are 8:30 am – 6 pm with 1 hour lunch
  • We will be closed major holidays
Education and Experience:
  • CVT license preferred
  • non-licensed Veterinary Technician experience minimally necessary
MAJOR DUTIES
  • assisting the veterinarians in appointments, procedures and surgery/anesthesia
  • in-patient and out-patient care
  • technician examinations
  • laboratory duties
  • treatments, drug dosages and dispensing
  • surgery duties including anesthesia and monitoring
  • Dentistry
  • medical record notation and maintenance
  • housekeeping duties throughout the facility
  • administrative such as follow up on call backs
  • inventory awareness
  • OSHA awareness and compliance
  • helping with some CSR duties such as answering phones, triage calls and scheduling appointments A more complete list of duties will be provided upon applying for position.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Knowledge of the procedures used for receiving, treating, and scheduling patients, for ordering medical supplies, and requesting laboratory tests.
  • Knowledge of the use, care, and storage of veterinary instruments, materials, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of sterilization techniques to sterilize various instruments and materials.
  • Knowledge of the instruments, materials, and standardized procedures
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
  • Critical thinking – Understanding logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job.

  • Frequently required to bend, stand, stoop, walk, sit, talk, and listen, frequently working in a bent position.
  • Frequently use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; will reach with hands and arms.
  • Use strength or agility in capturing and restraining stronger, more active animals.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally handle dogs weighing up to and over 150 lbs.

Assistance will be provided by animal handlers when working with larger animals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to hazards associated with aggressive patients; hazards associated with infected animals and controlled substances; exposure to unpleasant odors and noises; exposure to bites, scratches and animal wastes; possible exposure to contagious diseases.
  • Follow federal and state animal health laws and regulations including OSHA and DEA.
