Provide your best care with more bridges and less barriers. Veterinary Specialty Hospital is looking for a Veterinary Technician to join us as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community. As an Emergency Critical Care (ECC) Veterinary Technician you’ll play an important role in pets’ lives by providing end-to-end care for our precious patients. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to support services including admitting and discharging patients. As an ICU/Critical Care Technician, you will have the following r ole responsibilities: Triage and obtain patient history in a manner to be able to quickly evaluating the severity of an animal’s condition and prioritizing care. Perform physical exams on veterinary patients and alert doctor team of any pertinent abnormalities/vitals out of parameters with sense of urgency consistent with the noted change Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients. With each hospital function, assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow. Being proficient in CPR and other emergency procedures. Identify patients at risk for arrest, initiate CPR and alert team members. Possess the ability to observe patients and recognize subtle changes in status and vital signs; with astute and careful monitoring of patients Able to utilize monitoring equipment and recognize trends in ECC, BP, CO2, Spo2. Provide restraint of patients without risk to patient, self, and others.
Diagnostic Testing:
Performing and interpreting diagnostic tests like bloodwork, urine analysis, and able to take diagnostic quality abdominal and chest radiographic films on patients. Properly perform medical treatments on hospitalized patients including administering PO, IM, Sub Q and IV medications. Able to place IO needles and administer medications via IO route Place IVC’s and advanced catheters like Jugular catheters, Central Lines or PICC lines Monitor and care for oxygen dependent patients and patients with chest tubes Place and maintain arterial line and obtain arterial blood samples for blood gas analysis Work alongside other skilled technicians and assistants in providing excellent, advanced medicine to your patients Assist with clinical procedures and offer direction to others.
Wound Care:
Providing wound care, suturing, and bandaging. Assisting with anesthesia induction and maintenance, including monitoring patients on ventilators. Assist with surgeries and procedures; set up in the OR and obtaining supplies needed intra-op Able to maintain a clean and organized work environment. Maintaining clinical areas and ensuring proper hygiene protocols. Assist with inventory management and ensuring supplies are stocked/re-stocked for all emergency procedures and treatment/management of patients in the ICU/ER Able to check in a client after hours, enter charges, process payments, retrieve previous medical history. Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems. Updating clients on their pet’s condition, providing information about treatment plans, and answering questions. Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options, medications, Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers. Participates in CE for the purpose of personal development and development of a critical care mindset. Staying current on veterinary medical knowledge and emergency protocols. Assist in the teaching of advance technical skills. Feel gratification of nursing critically ill patients back to health and reunite them with their pet parents Leadership roles: Work with management team to uphold and enforce SOP’s and other policies which have been agreed upon Work with management team to develop new skills and conduct training classes Work with team members on the floor to ensure a productive flow within the ER and ICU patients care and treatments are being completed in a timely manner Work with ICU techs to help navigate interpersonal differences and keep the team in a positive state of mind and maintain productivity on the floor

Experience & Skills Requirements:
Preferred Qualifications:
Prefer applicants with 3-5 years of experience in emergency and/or critical care medicine. Graduation from an accredited veterinary technology program and/or certified veterinary technician or eligible to sit for the VTNE or working towards becoming certified. Knowledge of animal care and nursing, especially critical care. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and terminology. Knowledge of the equipment and materials used and their availability and applications. Ability to effectively maintain a working environment while in stressful situations. Ability to effectively communicate with employees of various levels and responsibilities. Commitment to working within a team environment Positive, will-do attitude!
