Clinic Senior Manager, Medical Director, Staff Veterinarian, Veterinary Intern Job Duties include but are not limited to: Contributes to the health care of animals and the analysis of animal disease by assisting with all medical aspects of the intake process Assists the veterinarians and veterinary students with intake examination, treatments, diagnostics, and documentation as laid out in SOPs Scans animals for microchip and examine for any other signs of ownership; if signs of ownership are found, document findings and change stage appropriately to notify client services department Route animals appropriately into animal housing based on assigned stage Assists with grant-specific requirements by taking pictures of students on rotation Administers treatments to animals being made available for adoption Contributes to the administration of scheduled medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian Keeps the intake exam rooms clean, organized and disinfected Inputs medicals as instructed by a veterinarian Obtain samples for and perform diagnostic tests (fecals, heartworm tests, FeLV/ FIV tests) Performs (once certified) and/or assists in humane euthanasia Knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the essential functions of this position: Follow the mission of CAA. Enjoy working with animals and have a genuine concern for their care and well-being. Be familiar with all shelter Standard Operating Procedures and the Employee Manual. Be a self-starter. Have a working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions and animal handling and behavior. Handle animals safely and with patience and gentleness. Represent CAA in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers and staff. Create and sustain positive working relationships within CAA, with volunteers, the public and be a team player. Be patient, courteous and work well under stressful conditions. Maintain knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and computerized format. Read, write and communicate effectively. Learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures. Have familiarity with basic word processing systems and medical data and management programs
Required Professional Licensing or Certifications:
High School Diploma or GED. Valid Louisiana State Driver’s License. Certified Animal Euthanasia Technician through the LSBVM or be willing to become certified.
Physical Demands:
The work is performed in the surgery unit, intake office, intake bay, kennels and surrounding areas. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 40 pounds; climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects This position description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position.
