About the RoleAre you passionate about animal healthand research? Altasciences is seeking Veterinary Technician’s ofall levels to support our innovative research initiatives. As a keyplayer in our veterinary services team, you’ll work under theguidance of experienced professionals to care for animals throughvarious health activities in medicine, surgery, and drug therapy.

VeterinaryTechnicians perform various duties to facilitate and support thework and research done at the facility by completing a variety ofanimal health activities in the areas of medicine, surgery, anddrug therapy. As a team, the Veterinary Services staff, isresponsible for the treatment of all on-site ill and injuredanimals, and the fulfillment of the preventative medicine programas determined by the Attending Veterinarian.

What Youall DoHereFollow all Altasciences Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)and is compliant with GLP, ALCOA+, USDA, and AAALACParticipate inanimal health duties, including examination/treatment of animalsunder the guidance of APC veterinarians and maintain animal healthrecords.

Performs routine quality control on all paperwork andperforms computer entry and/or data retrieval asappropriate.

Performs routine diagnostic/screening tests andveterinary procedures (such as body weights, body condition score(BCS), fecal examination, blood collection, dose administration,sample processing, and tissue collection).Provides surgical supportby preparing patients, medications, and equipment for surgery, andmonitoring animals while under anesthesia. May assist in surgicalprocedures and/ or advanced diagnostic/treatment procedures.

Performgeneral housekeeping duties such as surgical sanitation, studyset-up, study clean-up, equipment maintenance and validation, andorganization of vet spaces.

Performs dose calculations formedications to be given based on initial orders from a veterinarianor as per SOP or Protocol and may be responsible for orderingsubstances from the pharmacy for planned procedures.

Proficient inworking with core animal species, ensuring the correct handling,restraint, and manipulation of sedated and non-sedated animals foressential procedures.

Contributes to data collection, aiming toachieve high data quality.

Assists Research Associates, Post-Life,and/or Labs and participates in weekend and evening rotations, asneeded.

What Youall Need to

SucceedEducation:

Associates orBacheloras degree with experience in clinical or research setting;Applicable state licensing for Veterinary technician (CVT/LVT/RVT);or high school diploma/GED with one year of relevant experiencepreferred. Equivalent combination of experience my substitute foreducation.

Work Experience:

6-12 months basic animal handling and /orbasic medical/veterinary experience

N/ACertificates/Licenses /

Registrations:

It is desirableto be working toward the AALAS Assistant Laboratory AnimalTechnician (ALAT) certification level or equivalent. StateVeterinary Technician License is preferred.

Basiccomputer skillsLanguage(s)

Skill:

Requires general reading, writing,and verbal communication skills. The ability to quickly understandand act on complex instructions delivered either verbally or inwriting, and the ability to communicate either verbally or inwriting with a wide variety of individuals in a professional,respectful, and clear manner.

Math Skills:

Requires the ability toaccurately calculate doses.

Training Requirements:

Continual GLPtraining.
