Full Job Description Job Summary:
The Veterinary Technician/Assistant Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the efficient operation of veterinary technician and assistant duties within the clinic. This position requires strong leadership skills, extensive veterinary technical expertise, and the ability to train and mentor staff effectively. The Supervisor will work closely with the Practice Manager and report personnel issues to them as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and coordinate daily activities of veterinary technicians and assistants. Train and onboard new veterinary technicians and assistants on clinic procedures and protocols. Assist in performing veterinary procedures including surgeries, appointments, and treatments as needed. Manage the technician/assistant schedule to ensure adequate coverage and efficient workflow. Direct and supervise “floor traffic” to maintain smooth clinic operations. Address and resolve staff conflicts or performance issues in collaboration with the Practice Manager. Ensure compliance with clinic policies, procedures, and safety protocols. Collaborate with veterinarians (DVMs) to optimize patient care and client satisfaction. Maintain inventory and equipment in collaboration with the Practice Manager. Uphold high standards of patient care, client communication, and professionalism.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a veterinary technician or assistant, with demonstrated proficiency in veterinary clinical skills. Proven leadership or supervisory experience preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make decisions under pressure. Knowledge of veterinary software systems (e.g., Shepherd) preferred. Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT) is a plus but not required.
