RESPONSIBILITIES

The Foster Care Program Supervisor shall be responsible for: Supervising not more than six full time Child Placement Workers and/or aides and volunteers providing services in the agency’s Therapeutic Foster Care program. The Foster Care Program Supervisor, or a person qualified and authorized to act on behalf of the Foster Care Supervisor, shall be accessible to the supervised staff at all times (24 hours per day, 7 days per week). Delegating appropriate responsibilities to other staff including the responsibility of supporting the work of Foster Child Placement Workers during their absence Ensuring a staff person is prepared to accept delegated supervisory authority and responsibility in the short-term absence of the Foster Care Supervisor for reasons of illness, vacation, jury or military duty, professional seminars and meetings or in short-term periods when the position is vacant. Guiding employees in the assessment of services or placement needs of children; the development of psychosocial assessment of case goals/objectives and/or case plans for children and their families; and the implementation of the case plan Determining work assignments and periodically monitors workers’ productivity and activity May serve as a consultant to other supervisors or employees May design and deliver training curricula or provide on-the-job training opportunities for supervised staff Assisting Foster Care Recruiters by gathering and analyzing data in order to inform recruitment campaigns regarding potential adoptive and foster family resources to meet the placement needs of children in provider custody Reviewing and approving foster home studies, certifications and placements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a fundamental love for others and a desire to be an agent for change in their lives. Must have empathy for others and practice the Golden Rule in relationships. Must be an active, eager learner and willing to try new methods. Must possess a strong sense of personal authority, maturity and integrity for agency-wide leadership role. Must possess strong leadership skills to promote staff unity, staff morale and cooperative relationships among various agency departments. The Foster Care Supervisor shall meet one of the following education and experience qualifications: 1. a master’s degree from an accredited school of social work; 2. two years’ experience in child placement 3. in all instances, child placement staff shall include a person meeting the qualifications of a supervisor of placement services; 4. a person serving as acting supervisor shall meet the qualifications of supervisor of placement services. If there is no one on staff who meets the qualification, the agency may meet the minimum requirements for licensing by entering into an agreement with another licensed Child Placing Agency for supervision or by entering into a contractual agreement with a private practitioner who meets the qualifications and is a licensed clinical social worker. Must have demonstrated an appreciation for the value of maintaining a culturally diverse staff, demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse staff and the ability to communicate effectively with all staff members. Must have a fundamental love for children and a desire to be an agent for change in their lives. Must possess a sense of personal authority, maturity and integrity for leadership role with staff and youth. Must have strong verbal and social skills for use with youth and staff. Must be committed to the protection of confidential information, records and reports. Must have a strong work ethic and be willing to commit to significant job responsibilities. Must have excellent organizational and leadership skills and possess imaginative and creative skills. Must be able to function in many different roles and participate effectively in the life of Louisiana United Methodist Children and Family Services. Education Required Bachelors or better
