Primary Purpose of Department The Division of University Advancement manages the University’s external environment by leading UNC Charlotte’s communications strategies and by building strong, progressive relationships between the University and its alumni, students, faculty, staff, donors, friends, corporate partners, and elected officials to help advance UNC Charlotte’s strategic initiatives. The Office of University Events is responsible for UNC Charlotte’s signature events, overseeing event management and production of events including, but not limited to, Commencement ceremonies, high-profile lectures, donor gatherings, and events sponsored by the Chancellor. Primary Purpose of Position The Senior Director of University Events will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of high-profile events at UNC Charlotte, ensuring the highest quality experiences for attendees, stakeholders, and the community. Summary of Position Responsibilities The Senior Director of University Events is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for all major University events, aligning with institutional goals and priorities.
This role involves developing and executing comprehensive event plans, managing high-profile events, and collaborating with University leadership, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to achieve desired results.
The Senior Director supervises and mentors the events team, oversees event budgets, and ensures compliance with University policies.
This position may require occasional evenings and weekends, depending on event schedules.
The Senior Director of Events will work in a collaborative office environment and may also spend time on-site at events. Minimum Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in event management, with at least three years in a leadership role, preferably in a higher education setting. Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience Strong leadership and team management skills
Excellent organizational and project management abilities
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
Proficient in budget management and financial oversight
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment Necessary Certifications/Licenses N/A Preferred Certifications/Licenses CSEP (Certified Special Event Professional)
