JOB SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Sales and Promotions Coordinator is to support activities that increase general admission attendance and strategically create in-person connections with the community to ultimately grow our audience. The Sales and Promotions Coordinator’s work will be focused on the following areas: Onsite promotions

  • coordinating on-floor promotions that occur within our building to drive attendance, attract new audiences and enhance/enrich our guests’ experience Community engagement efforts
  • coordinating and participating in community events and on-site promotions to reinforce relationships with long-established constituents and connect new audiences with the Aquarium’s mission and programs Aglow operations lead (seasonal)
  • act as on-floor captain during the Aquarium Aglow season (November
  • December) ensuring an exceptional guest experience and operational excellence Hospitality relationship development
  • cultivate and maintain new relationships with hotel partners, concierge groups and visitor centers to increase pre-paid ticket sales
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Onsite Promotions Support the development, coordination and execution of on-floor promotions that drive attendance and enhance guest experience. Promotions include Spring Break, holidays, character appearances, Shark Week and other promotions as planned Engage with guests during on-floor promotions in order to identify changes and/or improvements for future opportunities With the help of the Senior Manager of Sales and Business Development, evaluate the performance of promotions by reviewing and analyzing ticket sales, post-visit surveys, and general guest feedback Attend monthly Event Operations meetings Community Engagement Work with other Aquarium departments to identify specific opportunities for community engagement that align with event audiences and topics. Specifically, work closely with the Marketing and Strategic Communications team to ensure that event participation goals are achieved, and event strategy continually aligns with the overall strategic goals of the Aquarium Maintain an updated calendar of Aquarium’s planned participation in upcoming community events Support the Advertising and Community Engagement Manager with scheduling of staff and volunteers to assist with outreach events Attend community events and represent the Aquarium at assigned station (events can occur during the day or on evenings or weekends) Set up, staff, and break down the outreach booth at events Work with staff and volunteers participating in events and provide them with detailed instructions and information for each event Provide exceptional animal care when transporting animals and exhibiting animals in the community Talk to community members about Aquarium events, programs, promotions, and general information Be prepared to participate in on-site media interactions and interviews when requested, communicating approved information from the Marketing team Assess individual outreach events and identify additional opportunities to enhance Aquarium’s presence in the community When feasible, host a table to engage with tourists and sell tickets at approved locations (Charleston Visitor Center) during high-tourism season Seasonal Aglow Operations Lead Act as Aglow Captain for duration of Aquarium Aglow to ensure smooth setup and event excellence. Be present to help each department solve problems. Report on any issues, concerns or room for improvement to Aglow planning team Attend Aglow planning meetings as necessary (1-2 per month) Ability to work nights and weekends during the holiday season Hospitality Industry Relationships Act as a liaison for the Aquarium at Industry Events (Travel Council, Lowcountry Hospitality Association, Concierge Events, etc.) by sharing upcoming promotions and Aquarium news to encourage partners to send their guests to the Aquarium Share news from Industry Events with Sales and Services Manager as well as the Marketing Team Identify and pursue potential prospects for the Aquarium’s prepaid ticket program

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop a fluent understanding of Aquarium programs. Support the mission by participating in Aquarium sponsored programs and events on a regular basis. Assist with the promotion of the organization in the community. Represent the Aquarium at public events and functions. Coordinate volunteer support on an as needed basis for projects and events Work with Marketing & Strategic Communications to ensure consistent organizational branding Adhere to the South Carolina Aquarium policies and procedures

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint is preferred. Training in the Altru platform will be provided Excellent verbal, written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills Enthusiasm for talking with people about the Aquarium and an ability to identify opportunities to deepen their engagement Must be a detail and goal oriented, enthusiastic individual able to exercise independent judgment in completing tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines Demonstrated organizational skills; able to manage multiple projects and move quickly from one to another while maintaining thorough records. Ability to be flexible and balance competing priorities

1-2 years of related or relevant experience
