Sales Manager 3.4 3.4 out of 5 stars 206 Mehta Court, Hot Springs National Park, AR 71913 SUMMARY The individual will work with the General Manager to create group business and promotions that drive business for the hotel. They are the primary person responsible for ensuring all necessary sales functions are managed in an accurate manner and on a timely basis. The individual will be responsible for developing an annual marketing plan on how to maximize revenue and sales based on current market trends and establish partnerships with area tour operators and other hospitality leaders. The sales manager must have a dynamic personality, possess excellent interpersonal skills, be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and be able to meet aggressive sales targets. Additionally, he or she must be sales and relationship driven as well as service oriented and be able to work independently, without direct supervision, or as part of a cohesive team. Further, he or she must be able to think clearly, analyze and resolve problems, while exercising good judgment and remaining calm and courteous in demanding situations. Additionally, this position performs and completes the administrative functions required to ensure the smooth functioning of the department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Greet guests, potential clients, and existing clients in a friendly, professional manner, making sure that they are comfortable.
  • Give professional property site tours.
  • Follow-up on phone messages in a timely manner.
  • Be familiar with community and area business events and keep the necessary files and calendars so these events can be anticipated and capitalized on.
  • In cooperation with other hotel staff, see that area hotel reader boards are read several times per week and that company names on vehicles are noted, if necessary, and followed up on to enhance our hotel’s business.
  • In cooperation with the General Manager, actively attend and participate in community organizations (Chamber of Commerce, CVB and Meeting Planners Associations, etc.) and see that all important ones are regularly attended by a key hotel staff member.
  • Set up and maintain all sales files, including trace (tickler) files.
  • Retrieve (pull) and properly distribute all trace files daily and note whether they are followed up on and re-filed properly.
  • Coordinate sales promotional mailings.
  • Maintain and follow-up on a calendar of events and take necessary actions based on meeting due dates.
  • Double check group and corporate rooms prior to guest check in.
  • Directly responsible for maintaining room night consumptions for frequent clients and companies, whether they are participating in a program such as our “frequent stay program” or not.
  • Responsible for telemarketing – follow-up with phone calls from mailings, trade shows, sales trips, and sales calls.
  • Make outside cold and planned sales calls to area businesses, groups, organizations, associations, and individuals who may be planning events.
  • Plan, implement and administer sales blitzes at your own hotel or other affiliated hotels to include making sales calls.
  • Help train guest services agents, room attendants and other hotel staff in customer service on an ongoing basis.
  • Conduct greetings and attend welcome receptions for groups.
  • On sales calls (drop-ins, telephone and outside) know how to probe for client needs: rooms; suites; desired dates; day-of-week pattern; program agenda; food and beverage requirements; and degree of flexibility in those areas.
  • When available, obtain information on a group’s history: i.e., previous rooms reserved and picked up; arrival/departure pattern; and double occupancy percentage from both the group planner and previously used hotels.
  • Review availability of client’s desired dates and research any alternative dates which could be offered. The dates presented to the client should satisfy their needs while allowing the hotel to maximize occupancy and average rate overall.
  • Negotiate with clients the day or days of the week that rooms will be needed (and held), the number of rooms that will be blocked for each day of the function, and group rates (within guidelines set by the Corporate Director of Sales and Marketing and General Manager, including complimentary rooms and function space discounts).
  • Tentatively block rooms and function space in accordance with the hotel’s policy.
  • Confirm in writing, according to hotel standards, all aspects of the guest rooms and meeting space. Track to ensure signed contracts and deposits are received on a timely basis.
  • Work with the hotel’s staff to create and execute special promotions which will attract attention to the hotel, draw new business and be profitable.
  • Attending breakfast two times each week to meet with guests and to search for additional business.
  • Other tasks and assignments which may be assigned.

EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required. Additionally, a minimum of one year business to business sales experience is required.
