Position Characteristics of Work:

The Director of Domestic Sales for Visit Mississippi will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive sales strategies to promote domestic tourism, focusing on group tours, meetings, conventions, culinary experiences, and cultural tourism initiatives. This position requires a dynamic leader with a deep understanding of sales and a passion for showcasing Mississippi’s music, history, and culture. This is a non-state service position. Principal Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy to target potential tourism markets, including leisure travelers, business groups, meetings, conventions and consumers to increase visitation and revenue for Mississippi’s tourism sector.
  • Lead and manage domestic sales efforts, targeting group tours, meetings, conventions, culinary and cultural tourism programs.
  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the Domestic Sales Office, including supervising, training, managing performance, ensuring productivity, and providing guidance and support to sales staff to achieve sales objectives.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships proactively with key stakeholders such as domestic travel agents, tour operators, meeting planners, and other key decision makers to generate leads and sales opportunities for Mississippi tourism.
  • Oversee the culinary, cultural tourism, and trails programs, ensuring alignment with overall sales objectives.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, including conventions and events, to position Mississippi as a premier destination.
  • Conduct outbound sales activities such as sales missions, email outreach, tradeshows, etc. to secure new business.
  • Represent Visit Mississippi at trade shows, conferences, industry events, and networking opportunities to promote the state and its tourism offerings.
  • Build and maintain relationships with existing clients, including regular communication, site visits, and personalized service to ensure repeat business.
  • Work closely with the marketing team to develop sales materials and messaging aligned with sales initiatives.
  • Analyze market trends and sales performance data to adjust strategies and drive continuous improvement in sales performance.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create promotional materials and campaigns that effectively highlight Mississippi’s attractions and experiences.
  • Prepare regular reports on sales activities, performance metrics, and market insights for senior management.
  • This is a non-state service position with the Mississippi Development Authority.
  • What you’ll need to be Successful
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, marketing, or related field.
  • Proven sales experience.
  • Supervisor experience with strong managerial and leadership skills.
