The Women’s Ready-to-Wear Department Manager at Dillard’s is a dynamic and results-oriented leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of their assigned ready-to-wear department. This includes driving sales, managing inventory, leading and developing a sales team, ensuring exceptional customer service, and maintaining visual merchandising standards. The Manager will be instrumental in creating an inviting and inspiring shopping environment that reflects Dillard’s commitment to fashion and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales & Profitability Management:
Develop and implement strategies to consistently achieve and exceed departmental sales goals and profitability targets. Analyze sales data, market trends, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for growth and improvement. Monitor and manage departmental expenses, including payroll, to optimize operational efficiency. Proactively identify and address underperforming areas and develop action plans for improvement.
Team Leadership & Development:
Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard qualified sales associates for the ready-to-wear department. Provide ongoing training, coaching, and performance feedback to empower associates to achieve sales goals and deliver outstanding customer service. Foster a positive, motivating, and collaborative team environment. Conduct regular performance reviews and manage disciplinary actions when necessary, in accordance with company policy. Schedule and assign duties to associates to ensure adequate coverage and operational efficiency.
Customer Service Excellence:
Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service, resolving complex customer issues, and ensuring a positive shopping experience. Train associates on Dillard’s customer service standards, including product knowledge, styling advice, and clienteling techniques. Ensure all customer interactions are handled with professionalism, courtesy, and a focus on building lasting relationships.
Merchandise Management & Visual Presentation:
Oversee the effective merchandising and display of ready-to-wear apparel, ensuring adherence to Dillard’s visual standards and current fashion trends. Manage inventory levels, including receiving, ticketing, stocking, and transferring merchandise, to maximize sales and minimize shrink. Collaborate with buyers and corporate teams on product assortment, promotions, and markdown strategies. Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting department appearance at all times.
Operations & Compliance:
Ensure strict adherence to all Dillard’s company policies, procedures, and security protocols, including those related to cash handling, inventory control, and loss prevention. Manage daily operational tasks, including opening and closing procedures, cash wrap operations, and special orders. Conduct regular department audits to ensure compliance with operational guidelines. Effectively communicate company initiatives, promotions, and changes to the team.
Qualifications:
Experience:
3+ years of retail management experience, with a strong preference for experience in women’s apparel, ready-to-wear, or a fast-paced department store environment.
Leadership Skills:
Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team to achieve sales goals and operational excellence.
Business Acumen:
Strong understanding of retail operations, sales metrics, inventory management, and financial analysis.
Customer Focus:
Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer service and building strong customer relationships.
Fashion Knowledge:
A keen eye for fashion trends, an understanding of women’s ready-to-wear sizing and fit, and the ability to effectively merchandise apparel.
Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information to staff and customers.
Organizational Skills:
Highly organized with strong time management and problem-solving abilities.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in POS systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and retail management software.
Availability:
Flexible availability to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by retail business needs.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Retail Management, Fashion Merchandising, Business Administration, or a related field is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
